There is nothing inside a Local Services Ads account that can be tuned for voice search. You do not write the ad, you do not choose the keywords, and there is no separate voice placement to bid on: Google assembles the unit from your verified categories, your service area, your review record and your hours. Anyone selling you voice optimisation for this channel is selling you work on a surface that does not exist.
The advice in circulation was written for a different channel
The standard guidance is to use conversational phrasing, target longer question-shaped queries, and rewrite ad copy to match how people actually speak. All of that is sound advice, and all of it applies to things you control: your own pages, and paid search where you write the headlines.
A Local Services Ads unit has neither. There is no headline field. There is no keyword list. What you can change is which job types you have selected, which postcodes you cover, and whether your licence and insurance are current. None of those has a spoken form.
The site side of voice is a real subject with real work attached, and for a trade it comes down mostly to the Business Profile; that is covered separately and it is not what this channel does.
You cannot tell which calls came from voice
This is the part worth being blunt about. A call that started with somebody speaking to a phone arrives in your dashboard identically to a call that started with somebody typing. There is no flag, no separate report, no segment.
Which means any report you are shown attributing leads, revenue or improvement to voice search on this channel is presenting something that was not measured. It may be sincerely meant. It is still invented. If a proposal promises to grow your voice-driven lead volume and to report on it, ask where that number comes from before you agree to anything.
What actually decides whether you are the business named aloud
The same short list that decides your placement generally, because a voice assistant reading out a local result is reading a result.
- Being verified and unsuspended. A lapsed insurance certificate takes you out of the running entirely, and it is the most common self-inflicted outage.
- The right job categories and service area. If you have selected a category you do not really want, you will be offered for it. If you have missed one you do want, you will not appear.
- Review volume and recency. These carry weight in ranking, which makes asking for them an advertising task rather than a reputational one.
- Answering. Responsiveness feeds back into how often you are shown, so slow answering costs the lead and the next position too.
Nothing on that list is voice-specific. That is the point. There is no separate readiness project here: the work is the work you already had, and the economics of it are unforgiving.
The one thing voice genuinely changes
Not the account. The phone.
Someone talking to a device is usually holding something else: a torch, a shut-off valve, a child. They are not in a position to open three websites and compare them. When they are connected, they are connected, and whoever picks up is having the conversation.
So the practical consequence of more voice-initiated calls is not a settings change. It is that the cost of a call ringing out goes up. That is an intake question, and it is answered with a person or an ad schedule, not with a keyword.
Frequently asked questions
Do voice assistants use Local Services Ads results?
Local results, including verified businesses, can be surfaced by assistants. What you cannot do is target voice separately or write for it, because the ad text is generated by Google rather than by you.
Should I add conversational keywords anywhere?
On your own pages, yes, question-shaped headings with direct answers underneath are useful regardless of how the query arrived. In a Local Services Ads account there is nowhere to put them.
How do I report on voice search performance?
For this channel, you do not. The data is not exposed. Report on cost per booked job and answer rate, which are measurable and which decide the outcome anyway.
Is any of this going to change?
Possibly. If Google exposes voice as a segment or opens up the ad text, the advice changes with it. Until then, buying preparation for a shift that has no controls attached is buying nothing.
Where to start
Open your Local Services Ads account and look for a field you could write a sentence into. There isn’t one. Spend the hour on your answer rate instead; that is the lever this channel actually has.
